How We Got Here
As a part of this growth and evolutionary process, C.G. Johnson Boiler Co. became part of the family in 1986. Since 1915, C.G. Johnson Boiler has been providing code welding, re-tubing, refractory, and burner service for the institutional and industrial market. Our customer’s quest for improvement of our quality control program has enabled the Company to become one of the industrial leaders and a model for others in the business.
Another addition of quality service is Balcon Air and Water Balancing. Established in 1990 as a Division of Rasmussen Heating & Cooling, Balcon focuses on detailed testing, adjustments, and balancing of air and water systems in facilities. From makeup air units to biological hoods to large centrifugal hydronic pumps, Balcon tests, adjusts, and balances equipment to meet engineering design criteria and reach peak performance capabilities.
Also in 1990, Rasmussen Heating & Cooling started a new temperature controls division. Servicing pneumatic and direct digital control systems soon began another niche for the organization within the industry. Additional the Company later became an authorized service and installation contractor for Honeywell Controls.
Additional growth in 1990 brought Rasmussen Heating and Cooling the development of a Western Nebraska boiler and burner service division. Service technicians were simply dispatched from their homes throughout the central part of the state prior to Kearney, Nebraska become the hub and future satellite office location.
The continual Company growth paved the way for the first name change. In 1991, Rasmussen Heating & Cooling became Rasmussen Mechanical Service Corporation.
In 1994, R.W. Rice Company, initially a subsidiary corporation of RMS, joined the family. A boiler service and repair organization started in 1959, R.W. Rice possessed several ASME and National Board stamps and also possessed a pride in its state of the art quality control program. This division has been successful in the engineering, design, and installation of many boiler room facilities throughout the entire Midwest.
As a part of R.W. Rice Co., Wilson Temperature Controls was added in 1991 to better service the needs of clients temperature control systems. In 1996, Wilson dropped their name and became the R.W. Rice HVAC division, which provided full service maintenance and repair on all pneumatic and direct digital controls as well as heating and air conditioning equipment. Design and installation of all controls and HVAC equipment has enabled this division to become a growing and vital part of the RMS family.
TriTech Sales, established in 1968 as Quota Control, was an important part of the acquisition of R.W. Rice as a supplemental service supplying the Midwest as a wholesaler of hydronic and steam equipment parts and accessories. TriTech also offered a wide variety and service to its clients in the area of HVAC controls and related components. Combustion controls, gasketing, boiler parts, and steam and hydronic specialties provided responsively to our customers has allowed for continual success.
Prime Refrigeration, established in 1985 as Prime Construction, became a part of R.W. Rice in 1999 and brought the Corporation the ability to provide process piping in the form of ammonia refrigeration. Prime focused on serving the food processing industry, as well as other cold storage facilities throughout the country with quality ammonia system installations, piping insulation, and as a source for ammonia system parts.
In 2002, as Rasmussen Mechanical Services Corporation and all subsidiaries continued to gain market share and stretch the limitations of the service area, with the development of a boiler and burner service division in Rapid City, South Dakota. The satellite office location has been providing services throughout Northwest Nebraska, Eastern Colorado, Wyoming, and South Dakota.
